Samsung Galaxy A5 (2016) – First impressions – UFC Que Choisir

Despite its position as the world leader in smartphones, Samsung remains on guard. The threat is not so much Apple firmly entrenched in second place, as Chinese manufacturers who settle quietly in Europe for several months. With their smartphones at good value, Huawei, Xiaomi and other giants grow to react. The Galaxy A5 2016 edition illustrates the phenomenon. Last year, Samsung launched the Galaxy A5, a pretty basic average range smartphone inspired by his first price models. For the 2016 version shift: the smartphone is inspired by high-end models of Samsung, including the Galaxy S6. Certainly, specifications still distinguish (see our comparison below). But aesthetically, the Galaxy A5 (2016) has nothing to envy. ->

This is our first observation: Samsung now does more than ignore the design of its smartphones, be they mid-range. As S6, A5 (2016) is made of glass and aluminum. Its front is even curved at the edges, a detail reminiscent of the iPhone 6S 6 and Apple. No sacrifice either side software, since this new smartphone running the latest version of the operating system Google Android Lollipop (5.1.1). As usual, Samsung has modified the interface with its overlay software TouchWizz, the graphics deserves to be dusted. Despite its colors (too) bright, it pales in effect as competitors modernize, be it Windows Phone interface, Apple or other manufacturers overcoat incorporating Android like HTC or Sony.

Good value for money

A bit cheesy, this interface (which is found on all Samsung smartphones), n ‘is no less fluid. Our laboratory tests will accurately judge the power of the new Galaxy A5, the quality of the camera, speakers, or the battery (non-removable). Meanwhile, we spent a few days without incident with the smartphone through habitual use combining messages, emails, photos, some games ( Need for Speed ​​, Cooking Fever ), social networks (Facebook and Twitter), finding directions with Google Maps. The screen of 5.2 inches (13.2 cm) proves light and the camera is fairly light (155 grams). Samsung has chosen to limit the internal memory to 16 GB, but fortunately the smartphone has a micro-SD memory card slot to expand storage. Photos, videos and applications take up space, especially as the 13 megapixel sensor can capture video in Full HD. It remains to see the quality of pictures, video as a picture elsewhere. On paper, the Galaxy A5 (2016) is promising and a good value. But before cracking, compare it to Galaxy S6, and especially wait a few days: Samsung is preparing to present its new flagship, the Galaxy S7, whose arrival will cause a decline in prices of other models of the manufacturer.

The Samsung Galaxy A5 is priced at around € 400. But the price of the Galaxy S6 has melted since its launch in April 2015, from 700 to … 450 €. So reduced the price gap allows to hesitate between the two models. Focus on the key features that distinguish them.
