Out of the spotlight trained on high-end models, a battle is played from the beginning of 2015 on a ground became capital: the portion of less than 200 €. It must be said, if manufacturers proudly communicate the sales figures of their flagships, smartphones that sell the most are those on low rates. Samsung launched the Galaxy J5 to € 229, but it soon fell below the € 200, Rainbow Up 4G placing lower fifty euros. Such discrepancies should result in a match played in advance … it is not so!

SCREEN: RAINBOW UP ADVANTAGE WIKO 4G |
With a size and a definition similar screen (5-inch HD 1280 x 720 px), the two opponents do not départagent immediately. The tiles could have been decisive, the shipping GJ5 Super AMOLED and Rainbow merely IPS. The first technology uses his almost infinite contrast ratio, delivering deep blacks. However, do not bury the Rainbow too fast. The IPS panel displays a contrast ratio of 1200: 1 and a maximum brightness of 537 cd / m² that rank it among the good students.
For colorimetry, neither excels, but the Wiko shows still more accurate, with a delta E measured at 5.9, against 8.3 for the Samsung. It does offer a slightly less cold made a visible difference in the particular white. The Up 4G finally taking the lead by offering a nothing more responsive, with a touch delay measured at 98 ms, 135 ms against J5.
GETTING STARTED AND INTERFACE: WIKO RAINBOW UP 4G |
A better optimized front and put better quality plastic, again, the Wiko forward. Its handling is more enjoyable and one slips in hand less than the Samsung with its glossy plastic. On the plane of the interface, the Rainbow opted for a slight redesign, anyway lighter than the Samsung TouchWizz overlay. We can blame the Wiko the little space left to the user internal memory (2.57 GB at first start), but the J5 is little better with its 3.5 GB. The one as the other application adding a microSD card to receive a minimum of data.
In addition, the MediaTek chip Wiko, together with 1GB of RAM, performs better than its rival from Qualcomm which equips the GJ5. A difference particularly noteworthy that the Samsung embeds 512MB of additional RAM. The fluidity is generally more often visit the Wiko than their opponents.
MULTIMEDIA: ADVANTAGE SAMSUNG GALAXY J5 |
We did not expect to find exceptional multimedia performance at this price level. Our two belligerents are no exception to the rule. The Galaxy J5 however shows a little more at ease, including the audio portion, very bad on the Rainbow Up 4G. For video, the Korean also takes a slight advantage by accepting more reading formats in its integrated application.
The video game is, for its part, the fort of any of our competitors. Only little greedy securities will be truly possible. Large 3D games require more resources than these smartphones can provide.

Here is another proof that it is not the number of pixels that makes the quality of shots. The Wiko offers 8 MP 13 MP against Samsung. Yet it is the first that dominates the debate. In bright light, the GJ5 been about par with his opponent, despite an artificial contrast enhancement which wastes natural photos. The Wiko however, manages a little better exposure changes and distance focusing. When light is in short supply, however, the Rainbow Up 4G takes some ahead of J5 which no longer sees much. It must be said that in these conditions the Wiko allows himself to go tickle the top of the cart, offering a content level of noise and very present details.
For video, the Galaxy J5 may be necessary, since it climbs up to Full HD when his opponent is content to HD resolution. But again, the poor management of the exposure and the development shatter the hopes of the Korean.
On paper, the endurance race gives a slight handicap to Samsung, which has a battery of 2600 mAh against 2800 mAh for Wiko. Our autonomy test confirms this small difference, our two friends who held 12:42 ET 1:30 p.m. respectively. For one as for the other, this is a solid result which is confirmed in practice, where it is possible to achieve two days away from a power outlet. The video playback test streaming gives GJ5 win by a short head (9:12 to 8:43 against the Rainbow).
VERDICT: WIKO RAINBOW UP 4G |
In this fight, the winner on points Wiko fate by being more effective than his opponent in several areas. The Korean clings with good endurance and being less rough on the multimedia part. But ultimately, the knockout comes undoubtedly the price, € 149 for the Rainbow 4g Up against more than 200 € for the Galaxy J5. In the day of their launch, the gap of € 80 seems absolutely not justified.
