S7 Galaxy: Samsung presents its BRITECELL technology – CNET France

S7 Galaxy: Samsung presents its BRITECELL technology

After ISOCELL, here BRITECELL. Under these barbarous words, hiding in fact Samsung sensor technologies. Announced at around the same time last year, the first was built in the Galaxy S6, it is therefore likely that it will be in the Galaxy S7. Main novelty of BRITECELL sensor: its low-light performance. Samsung announces also have managed to reduce the pixel size.

The technology seems to be closer to RGBW sensors (found especially in Huawei and others). Rather than adding a white sub-pixel, Samsung replaced by the green subpixel. The goal remains the same: to capture more light and thus improve the result when he misses. The removal of the green sensor does not distort colorimetry of the image, Samsung claims to have found a way.

The other innovation in the field is to have succeeded in developing pixels of only 1 micron, 1.12 against previously. According to Samsung, this will reduce the thickness of a sensor of 16 megapixels to 5 mm, against 6 before, obviously without sacrificing quality. This solution could eliminate or at least reduce the unsightly prominence of smartphone photo sensors. We will see how Samsung uses late February, probable date of the announcement of the Galaxy S7.
