A high-end smartphone recently released two possibilities. Left the Galaxy S5, Samsung signed. On the right, the G3, stamped LG. Common Ground: upscale nationality. Shared goal: to offer the best of themselves, regardless of the function used (photo, audio, Web, GPS, etc.), all backed by excellent battery life. If both devices clearly deserve one considers their case in mid-year, one of them shows a better hair than his opponent.

Samsung Galaxy S5 is the descendant of a line that has to seize the high-end market in a few years. Synonymous in the minds of many consumers the most advanced Android smartphone sphere, the name “Galaxy S” nevertheless eventually lost its luster in the eyes of geeks due to continuity foolproof in design models that do not fail to be interpreted as a lack of renewal.
G3, meanwhile, is displayed on the estate of her Korean rival competitor. If he does not enjoy a line as shown and widely synonymous with high-end, it can rely on the excellent reputation of its predecessor to generate an interest worthy of the expectation level found around the Galaxy S5 and its dolphins are the Xperia Z2 or HTC One (M8). Many mobile whose price fluctuates in time between 500 and 600 € and, when compared, only differ on some details.
This duel is an opportunity to compare the “champion” of the class to one of its most aggressive competitors. Both data sheets are rather richly adorned, and neither of smartphones has obvious technical advantage. A point by point comparison does give a clear verdict? We will see very quickly. |
DESIGN / ERGONOMICS: LG G3 ADVANTAGE |
While not entirely unattractive, the GS5 suffers – as many link finger – a lack of class pretty obvious. Very close to the look of its predecessor as well as that of many terminals stamped Galaxy, it boasts a finish more correct that, despite the “newness” that represents appearance of bumps on the back of mobile, waives not to look very “plastic” which Samsung has accustomed us. The fact remains that getting started is easy. However, it would have been even nicer if the Korean had been able to reduce the edges of the terminal. But we appreciate to see that all displays only 145 grams on the scale. Resistance to water and dust does not hurt, and the addition of a fingerprint reader smartphone is welcome. Too bad it often uncooperative.
The G3 is as GS5, made of plastic. Nevertheless, it has the right idea of adorning a coating brushed rather successful. It is distinguished by its physical key placed in the back of the terminal and impressive volume management: despite a screen of 5.5 inches, 5.1 inches against the GS5, it is no wider than 2 mm compared his rival from Samsung. A feat which enables it to also follow on the scale, with 149 g. The finish is to match, very significant, and the grip is also exemplary. Of course, the G3 does not offer fingerprint reader and offers no means of resistance to water and dust certification. However, this is an advantage over its rival in the first case, while the second remains a “plus” certainly significant, but dispensable for a large majority of consumers.
Equipped with a 5.1 inch screen with Full HD (1920 x 1080 px), Samsung Galaxy S5 enjoys a comfortable display of 432 ppi density. The contrast is backed by its almost infinite slab AMOLED compensates fairly widely an average brightness of 307 cd / m². The colors, by cons, can not really be described as faithful, and for good reason: in its fairest mode, namely the Cinema mode, the GS5 only managed to achieve a delta E of 7.1, while pass under the top of the bar 3 The reactivity of the touch screen is correct, with 100 ms, while the viewing angles are open.
With a screen of 5.5 inches which displays an unusual definition of 2560 x 1440 px, the G3 gives birth to an extraordinary display density of 538 ppi. Not to mention gadget, it is however not critical compared to “simple” Full HD screen, which already provide excellent visibility. G3 must also be satisfied with a decent-but-no-more contrast 830: 1, which is well compensated facing the sun by a vigorous brightness of 489 cd / m². With wide viewing angles, the flagship of LG sports a responsive screen (50 ms) and accurate (delta E 3). In short, a no-fault, although infinite contrast of the AMOLED is not in the game.
INTERFACE & amp; NAVIGATION: EX SHARED |
Samsung oblige, found on the GS5 the house, TouchWiz, which is interface KitKat is affixed Android (4.4). Effective, colorful, this overlay is very rich, as it proposes, in addition to an aggregator of social networks, the implementation of connected health S Health and Children mode, number of settings, shortcuts, widgets … to the point of including duplicates for each Google application, almost. The result is a comprehensive user interface, but a bit responsible to some people, as reflected in its extensive use of the RAM of the device. The configuration of this Galaxy S5, which is mainly based on the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 801, however, allows you to run all without a hitch.
The Galaxy S4 was already a good student, his successor on display worthy. It is, in short, what can be said of the performance of Galaxy S5 on the front of the photo. Effective, its 16MP camera delivers clear shots as a whole and has a fast autofocus. We also liked the interface, accessible yet richer. Too bad the picture gets dark in low light in the darkness, the GS5 rises to the sentence, and this creates a blur that is emerging. A fault a little annoying when you consider that the argument of the quality of shots in low light is often put forward by all manufacturers.
The G3 is an all-terrain photo. Of course, it does not compete with a dedicated device, but its 13-megapixel camera with a laser autofocus done wonders in terms of speed and accuracy. A quality that blends well with further OTR that allows the terminal. The Touch & amp; Shoot , which activates the trigger when the finger releases the area of focus, reinforces this fluidity. The pictures are sharp, and although the GS5 retains the advantage in terms of sharpness, wide G3 superiority over his rival in low light is definitely a better camera for him to be whipped out to capture any smartphone and any what.
Equipped with a 801 Snapdragon processor coupled with Adreno 330 GPU and 2GB of RAM, the Galaxy S5 is able to digest all kinds of content. Impeccable surfing, the experience is just as flawless in movie watching, with a drive that swallows formats and manages the subtitles without flinching. Involved, the system shows its power, even if it happens to meet some (light) slowdowns. Downside: the back of the machine heats up quickly. Meanwhile, the picture is less bright, with a terminal that is distinguished or through headphones or the speaker. The latter is also misplaced for mobile listening hand.
The G3 is, as its rival, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor 801. It also loads the same GPU, namely an Adreno 330 chip it is not a surprise to see him just as bright as its competitor in the field of multimedia. Involved, the G3 is impressive by its fluidity, but shares the problems of thermal dissipation GS5. Meanwhile, the flagship of LG is also neck-and-neck with the cador market: it does not really shines through the quality of its speaker, but offers a satisfying headphone
.
SELF: ADVANTAGE GALAXY S5 |
A battery with a capacity of 2800 mAh, it is expected that the Galaxy S5 shows endurance. He not only does not disappoint, but it surprises: with more than 23 hours recorded on our test application, and practical autonomy that can positively span two days rather than constraining the uses, the flagship Samsung 2014 is a place among the champions of the category. One downside to report: the game melts the energy reserves of the terminal like snow
.
The G2 was – and still is – one of the most enduring market smartphones. The G3 borrows its 3000 mAh battery, but must deal with a larger screen and higher resolution, both of which are synonymous with increased consumption. So it’s no surprise that the performance of G2 is not repeated. With 2:30 p.m. identified through our test application and a “real” self that lies between the day and the day and a half, the G3 is a good student, but not a champion endurance.
With three six criteria that lean in his favor, and two in which the terminals are at par compared here, the LG G3 wins the duel that opposed the tenor of the market that is the Samsung Apps Galaxy S5. Of course, it remains a very good smartphone, with a rare independence, but also a very “plastic” design, screen for low color fidelity and performance back when it comes to picture in low light; weaknesses that prevent it to be as complete as the flagship of LG, shining or at least shows very good in almost all contexts.
