Galaxy S4: part storage meager, in CyanogenMod ... - PC Inpact

As we have already seen in our case, the Samsung Galaxy S4 put on a lot of features appendices to do better than the competition. But they seem to be expensive because the storage space is particularly amputated. Indeed, the user has a little more than 8 GB of the 16 GB advertised by the manufacturer.

Samsung Galaxy S4

new flagship Samsung has a plethora of options (Air View, Screen Mirroring, Smart Screen, etc.), a TouchWizz interface, the user interface of the Korean manufacturer, in addition to many applications. All running the latest version as of Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean).

8 GB available on 16 GB announced

But then all of its technologies weighs particularly heavily in the balance, because as you can see above, on a clean install, only 8.25 GB is available to the user on the 16 GB which are announced. In our case, we stated that we would have preferred that Samsung is pushing a version of 32 GB, mainly because of the definition of the screen or its image sensors whose definition has increased significantly compared to the Galaxy SIII. The screen is well spent 720p Full HD 1080p while regarding the photo, Samsung includes a 13 megapixel, where they had the right to an 8 megapixel sensor last year.

Note that our colleagues from Cnet received an official communication from Samsung which is justified as follows: “For the Galaxy S4 16 GB, the operating system takes up about 6.85 GB, a more than the Galaxy S3, to support a screen in high definition and more efficient for our users “ prior to chain ” In order to offer the best features mobile experience to our users, the Galaxy S4 Samsung includes a microSD slot to enable storage expansion “. It is true that the manufacturer still has a microSDHC card reader supporting up to 64 GB more, but it is only possible to install data and no applications, at least without tinkering. But it is the latter and especially games, which take place quickly.

Still, this problem is nothing new either, we remember such communication from Microsoft on its shelves Surface Pro whose storage part is particularly busy (23 GB available on 64 GB) by operating system.

more honest communication manufacturers, salvation via CyanogenMod

Therefore, it would certainly be interesting that all manufacturers orbiting mobility transparency performs work on the storage part, rather than a simple comment suggesting that “the storage size may vary use “ in their data sheets.

But the short-term solution to reclaim storage space could also come from elsewhere. Indeed, the CyanogenMod team showed on Google+ over the weekend that the first Galaxy S4, the SGH-l337M which is available in Canada (a variant of the GT-i9505), had now a ROM (in nightly ) running Android 4.2.2. In addition, they indicated that the other versions, including one that is sold in France, were being prepared.
