Samsung Galaxy: a fault (corrected) allows remote control … – ZDNet France

Safety Samsung is put to the test in recent weeks after the recent attacks on Knox, secure their system containerization, here is a new alert focuses on the safety of Samsung products.

Researchers from NIST, the American Institute of technology standards, in collaboration with the US CERT, are worried about a security flaw discovered by Egyptian researcher Baset Mohammed. This fault is on the Find my mobile feature, present in Samsung smartphones Galaxy brand. It easily allows an attacker to strike, block or unblock the phone away from the target.

The flaw involves the use of a malicious site by tricking the user to click on a URL that contains the code to exploit the flaw. To support its findings, Baset Mohammed also presented two videos detailing the feat in question through this url exploiting the vulnerability, particular locker reached the remote phone asking for an unlock code specific and customized. In short, a perfect little ransomware makeshift directly integrated into the phone.

As explained in the report researchers from NIST, the “Find my phone” Samsung function does not bother to know who is the sender of the lock code. But this security alert appears to have been corrected by Samsung contacted by DigitalTrends, the Korean firm said it had patched this vulnerability since Oct. 13 and that it is no longer relevant. More fear than harm, then, and Samsung comes out again without too much damage to its image.
