Samsung Galaxy Note 4: test of its Quad HD 5.7 inch screen – The Digital

Newly arrived in drafting Digital , the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is currently being tested in our laboratory. The first results have just been released. They cover the screen, a 5.7-inch AMOLED panel.

Introduced last September at IFA, Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is the figurehead of the Korean manufacturer in the world of phablettes. Visually, the Note 4 is very similar to the previous Galaxy Note 3 The change is mostly indoors. Processor quad-heart Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 to 2.7 Hz, 3 GB of RAM … the Note 4 looks like a monster competition.

From Galaxy Note 3 Note 4 retains the Super AMOLED screen of 5.7 inches. Its definition is much larger, since the smartphone passes Quad HD (2560 x 1440 px for a density of 515 dpi). The Note 4 joins the LG G3, Oppo Find the 7 or the Galaxy S5 LTE-A, in the park of Quad HD smartphones.

For each display mode, its advantage

As always, Samsung offers various screen modes: Photo, Basic, Cinema and Adaptive. The Adaptive mode is a kind of amalgamation of three existing methods, to ensure (in theory) the best possible result whatever the situation. This promise is not really required. Its Delta E is estimated at 4.4. This value is the difference between a “real” color and the color displayed by the screen. More Delta E approaches zero, the more it stands for quality.
Brightness is measured here at 357 cd / m². Four modes, the brightness is lower. Finally, Adaptive method suffers from a very high color temperature (7862 Kelvin).

Étrangement, it will turn to the Basic mode to get the optimal values. It is in this color profile that delta E is at his best, with 3.1. The Note 4 errs a well balanced color temperature (6976 Kelvin). This avoids the case of saturated shades of color as the Acer Liquid Z4. This mode would achieve a faultless if the brightness was not stagnating at 359 cd / m².

For its part, the photo mode is the color temperature of the first asset. In 6986 kelvins, it heels the Basic mode, on the right balance of colors. The brightness gains some units, to 362 cd / m². This makes it so the most “light” mode.
A gap of five lumens between the highest and lowest measurement, the Galaxy Note 4 keeps a fairly constant light, irrespective of the mode. Record the brightness of Note 3 (450 cd / m²) in dynamic mode remains to fight. Delta E, meanwhile, continues to rise. Rated at 5.3, it is fortunately not as great as that of the Cinema mode.
Usually most saturated color profiles of the four, the Cinema mode does not change the rating 4. DeltaE explodes and thus reached 10.1, while the color temperature follows the movement (7987 Kelvin). With 360 cd / m² brightness remains fortunately rosy.
As you can see, each profile offers various advantages and disadvantages, depending on the situation. Only the contrast and brightness remain stable. With its Super AMOLED screen, the Galaxy Note 4 has an infinite contrast, in all available modes which puts a maximum brightness is reached for each mode. Indeed, if the Note 4 does not offer 500 or 550 cd / m 2 as can be seen on some smartphones, he uses his infinite contrast with abysmal blacks, to strengthen the overall screen visibility both indoors outdoors.

A persistence and a tactile copy delay

From model to model, Samsung refines the touch delay and persistence of its phablettes. The Galaxy Note 4 reaches the score by 68 ms. He competes with his older (Note 3-67 ms). Regarding retention, the 7 ms make the score 4 identified one of the most smartphones “fast” tested by The Digital . Currently, the Galaxy Alpha who holds the top spot (6 ms).
Time Galaxy Note 3, the activation of the “Increase Touch Sensitivity” was the winning formula to also achieve good results. The Note 4 is in the simplicity: the screen is responsive, the sensitivity is enhanced or not

With Note 4, Samsung delivers a quality screen and even just one of the best on the market, thanks. a Basic Mode very balanced. The 5.7-inch slab provides wide viewing angles, so a reading comfort. In addition, the high pixel density (515 dpi) ensures crisp and detailed as possible to the characters. Against competitors like the LG G3, the Sony Xperia Z3 or iPhone 6 Plus, the Galaxy Note 4 can easily swagger and join the terminal 5.5-inch Apple in the realm of the best displays of the year, because it loses slightly in color fidelity, it makes up without difficulty in display density and reactivity.

The question is now whether the display of Note 4 is power hungry. 3220 mAh battery Will sufficient to the ambitions of the Galaxy Note 4? Reply to come on The Digital in the next comprehensive test of Galaxy Note 4
