Samsung would have ordered 8 million flexible displays per month … – Frandroid

For its Galaxy S7, Samsung would have spent an impressive command of flexible OLED display: about 8 million per month. This is Samsung Display, which takes care of the production and it would have taken a little behind the original schedule.

Samsung FOLED

Galaxy S6 and S6 edge Samsung have just come out. Yet, eyes are already turned to the future terminals including Korean giant Galaxy Note and Galaxy 5 S7. With the Galaxy Note and Galaxy 4 Edge S6 edge, Samsung uses a FOLED display (Flexible OLED) with a plastic substrate to allow the slab to bend the sides . If one believes the Korean site ETNews would have met with employees of Samsung, the Korean automaker would continue to use this type of screen for future high-end smartphones. It is for this reason that the company has ordered Samsung Display of about 8 million flexible slabs per month.

To get to keep up, Samsung Display must convert some of its plants to successfully mass produce flexible slabs. The manufacturing process is more complex compared to a simple OLED display since the plastic substrate is much more difficult to work under high temperature to the glass substrate. Samsung Displays therefore seeks to still optimize the manufacturing process to increase its Yields (the number of functional chain slabs output). In addition, internal reorganizations are underway, while slowing down the process.

The start of the new mass production could occur by August to allow to have sufficient stocks for the Galaxy Note 5 scheduled for the end of the year, then ramp up for the arrival of Galaxy S7 next year.
