In war against the grant of terminals, Free Mobile launches another business model to attract customers: rental smartphones, iPhone 5S, Samsung Galaxy S4 and Note 3 for 12 euros per month for 2 years .

Xavier Niel has never enjoyed the model of subsidized mobile devices. After losing against SFR on this and the poor results of the implementation of a consumer credit to buy mobile trial Iliad draws another proposal: rental smartphone. Last April, the founder of Free explained in the press, “obviously, the consumer prefers that its payments are managed by us directly rather than going through a bank.”

The operator Free Mobile and is now offering the opportunity to rent an iPhone 5S or S4 or Galaxy Note 3 for 12 euros per month for two years, with a respective initial payment of 50 and 129 euros. In total, this gives 337 euros for S4, 387 euros for the 5S and 417 euros for the Note 3. Depending on the operator, the estimated relative to a cash purchase gain is about 40%. This option is now available to new subscribers package 20 euros per month (16 euros for Freebox customers).

If the offer is tempting for people who do not have the ability or the desire to acquire a high-end smartphone with a subsidy, it should however read the rental conditions before committing. Firstly, if the lease is independent of the package, change to another operator implies an overload of 5 euros per month on the rental price. Another point, the return of the terminal before the end of the lease term of 24 months involves the payment of the remaining installments.

In case of failure, Free Mobile distinguishes inherent vices supported by him and defects not related to the responsibility of the user. In case of theft, information and Free Mobile reported stolen enough to terminate the contract. Moreover, if the smartphone is returned in poor condition, the user will pay the price of mobile at the date of the order. The operator in its general conditions recommends users the purchase of insurance covering risks associated with holding a mobile (theft, loss, breakage, oxidation, …).

There is now how this rental offer will be perceived by users accustomed to the model grant other operators. If successful, perhaps Orange, SFR, Bouygues Telecom and MVNOs follow. They have already taken on 4G by integrating it into their offers low cost.
