Testing the Samsung Galaxy S TabPro: A Windows tablet 10 all … – Clubic

The Galaxy S TabPro could be seen as Samsung’s answer to the Surface Pro and other iPad Pro. Except that the Korean manufacturer had already tried a tablet 12 inches for professionals before Microsoft and Apple, but Android unsuitable at the time. This time, it was under Windows 10 that Samsung is back, and it’s a nice compromise between tablet and laptop, despite some reservations.

Design and ergonomics: as fine a Surface Pro iPad

TabPro Galaxy S hits the outset by its delicacy, which is more used to seeing on a tablet ARM processor. It is just over an iPad Pro 12.9 inch 1 mm in thickness, but the format is a little more compact, closer to the dimensions of a Surface Pro 4. This is simply the best template that could see on a tablet 12 inches. neither too thick nor too broad

The weight is contained but it is obviously impossible to obtain as a lightweight tablet Galaxy Tab S2 or iPad Air 2: 730 g is reached . This is less than Surface Pro 4, but a little more than the iPad Pro 12 inch. And as its two main competitors, the tablet is difficult to keep at arm’s length, although it is obviously not made primarily for use with one hand.

TabPro S is well finished, while like the Tab S outings last year: metal trim, matt plastic back. One simply has reservations about the pearl-white version we received for testing, why the glitter? This is a detail: Samsung has definitely kept its product, and it is even quite impressive to realize that there is an entire PC in there

A hybrid tablet would be nothing without its cover! keyboard. Good point: that of TabPro S is provided, where Microsoft and Apple offer theirs between 149 and 179 euros. The keyboard is based raw Cover Type Microsoft: keys, fine, are glued to each other, and completely flat, and it is not easy to distinguish

The tablet fixed. via a magnetic connector whose inspiration is equally obvious, and one of the flaps can be folded to provide two directions. A far cry from the flexibility of the kickstand Microsoft, but it is always better that the unique position of the Smart Keyboard for iPad Pro. It still emits some doubts about the strength of the hinge that hosts the connector, as it seems to go with the magnet every time the tablet is detached.

components: a data sheet provided properly

inside the Galaxy S TabPro is close enough to the base model Surface Pro 4. the tablet is powered by an Intel processor Core m3 to 1.1 GHz, able to climb up to 2.2 GHz in turbo mode, and supported by 4 GB of RAM. The thinness of the tablet obviously does not, unlike Microsoft, propose versions Core i5 or i7. However, a version a bit more muscular, why not with a Core m5 and 8 GB of RAM, would have been desirable

Samsung stands out on the screen while remaining faithful to his favorite technology. Super AMOLED. The panel displays a definition of 2160 x 1440 pixels, not as precise as a SP4 but still readable. We obviously appreciate the infinite black of the screen techno, especially as the viewing angles are very wide.

storage side, the S TabPro embarks 128GB again a priori with no other possibility. Not really surprising, because Microsoft does not accept its Core M version several storage capacities

A choice, at least, is left to the user. The Wi Version -Fi or 4G, a good point for a tablet thought especially for business use, especially as the modem is compatible Cat 6 (theoretical speed of 300 Mbps). The Wi-Fi version manages meanwhile the ac standard.
