Is the HTC 10 great rival Samsung Galaxy S7 and LG G5? – Frandroid

HTC has just unveiled the HTC 10, sold 749 euros. A smartphone clearly oriented high-end, either in the materials used, the components, but also in terms of features. Can the HTC 10 hold the road opposite the Galaxy S7 Samsung and LG G5? Let’s find out with our comparison of these three high-end smartphones of the moment.

The HTC 10 Samsung Galaxy S7 G5 and LG are all three flagship stores. They are indeed sold expensive, very expensive even for the HTC 10. This however is not the only criterion that determines the quality of their flagships, since the three phones have high-end components, as can be seen on their cards techniques. Trying still to decide between the three smartphones between them.

from aluminum and plastic

the three smartphones are clearly oriented upscale in their design. Whether the G5 LG, Samsung Galaxy or HTC S7 10, the three manufacturers use quality materials for a smartphone including aluminum. Samsung is even possible to use the glass in the back of the phone, which was still a nasty habit of catching fingerprints. LG, meanwhile, uses aluminum, but with paint that spoils the finish and feel of metal. HTC, meanwhile, offers a real aluminum with a touch really qualitative and much nicer than LG G5.

LG G5 can be commended for its rather unique unibody design, since it is possible to remove the lower part of the hull in a year. Practice to change the battery without departing from the screwdriver, unlike Galaxy HTC S7 and 10. A good point for the life of the terminal, since the battery is often the component which weakens first.

under the measures, the HTC 10 is the thickest, with 9 mm against 7.9 mm for the Galaxy S7 and 7.7 mm for LG G5. On balance, it is also the heaviest, with 161 grams against 159 grams for the G5 and only 152 grams for the Galaxy S7. The Samsung phone is the most compact, convenient for small pockets. The least compact remains the LG G5, whose screen is also the largest.

QHD for all the world

In terms of display, the three companies share the same definition: 2560 x 1440 pixels. The screen size changes little, from 5.1 inches for the Galaxy S7 to 5.3 inches for the LG G5 via the 5.2-inch HTC 10. The resolution is similar, and good luck to distinguish pixels with the naked eye, even approaching the slab. If HTC and LG have opted for IPS LCD technology, Samsung continues its momentum with the Super AMOLED. All three devices use technology to protect the screen from scratches and breakage.

For purists of the image, Samsung and HTC offer to adjust the colors on the screen with different modes. At LG, we must be content with the default mode, which can not be perfectly calibrated or please everyone. However, LG Quantum Dots uses technology that, on paper, show more shades of color.

three cameraphones

In the photo section, the three contenders defend well. None features a photo sensor anemic since we are facing 12 megapixel sensors in Samsung and HTC and LG 16 megapixels. The latter can even integrate another 8 megapixel sensor, responsible for wide-angle pictures. Samsung is distinguished by bluffing aperture of f / 1.7 to achieve beautiful background blur and bring more light into the sensor. HTC and LG have both opted for an aperture of f / 1.8, already very good.

The three smartphones incorporate optical stabilization to prevent blur and move to more flexible videos. Speaking of video, the three phones can shoot in 4K at 30 fps. The Galaxy S7 can go up to 240 frames per second at 720p against 120 frames per second for 10 HTC and LG G5. For more picky, found on the Pro three smartphones feature to adjust the camera (exposure time, ISO, white balance, manual focus), but also take pictures in RAW / DNG.

Note that the 10 HTC is the first smartphone to integrate optical stabilization for the front camera. Selfie lovers appreciate. The screen also serves as a flash, like the Galaxy S7, since it illuminates white when shooting.

three different interfaces

If all three terminals are based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow, they are all three installed under a different builder interface. One that departs most from the Google Android experience is desired LG’s interface, which is downright dismiss the application drawer. Samsung has largely cleaned up its TouchWiz interface with the Galaxy S7, but not as much as with the new HTC Sense interface that approximates 8 AOSP.

the new feature that allows Freestyle Layout preference is to override software grids to place icons anywhere on the home screen. An interface that wants lighter and can be updated faster than a more polished interface by the manufacturer. It is also necessary that the developers make the effort internally, and we will see when the availability of Android N.

performance

on paper, the performance of the three terminals should be similar since the HTC 10 LG G5 include both Snapdragon 820 while the Galaxy S7 Samsung in European version opts for the Exynos 8890, an alternative to the chip of Qualcomm. In terms of RAM, the three terminals include 4GB of RAM. Every day, the three smartphones should be very reactive. It will still check in testing the performance in practice, especially in demanding games.

At the 4G, the HTC 10 and the Galaxy S7 Samsung both support the 4G class 9, which means a theoretical maximum throughput of 450 Mbps download and 50 Mbps upload. The LG G5 is a little below with category 6, which means 300 Mbps in download, but still 50 Mbps upload. Wi-Fi level, there is support for 802.11 a / b / g / n / ac for the three phones.

battery

HTC, LG and Samsung promises a battery life of two days to three phones. 10 HTC and the Samsung Galaxy S7 to incorporate both a battery with a capacity of 3000 mAh, while the LG G5 is limited to 2800 mAh. If the LG terminal and the HTC support fast charging Quick Charge 3.0, the Galaxy S7 is limited to the Quick Charge 2.0, a little slower. Samsung and HTC will still announce the recharge 50% of battery in just half an hour

USB Type-C

the LG G5 and HTC 10 include both a port USB Type-C compatible with USB 3.1 Gen 1 that is to say USB 3.0. What seriously boost the rates for transfers between the computer and the phone. Who says USB Type-C also said support for the DisplayPort standard to connect the phone to a compatible display. The Galaxy S7 not even supports the MHL standard that allowed the time to connect the phone to an HDMI TV.

fingerprint sensor

the HTC 10, the G5 LG and Samsung Galaxy S7 each have a fingerprint sensor. On HTC 10 and the Galaxy S7, it is located at the front on the home button. It is touch-10 and physical HTC of Samsung. However, the LG G5, the fingerprint sensor has a place at the rear of the hull.

exclusive features

Each device has unique features, allowing to differentiate it from other smartphones. At Samsung, we can see wireless charging, resistance to water, the Game Launcher feature, live photos, the Wi-Fi hotspots or functionality always on display. For details about these features, you can find our dedicated folder. HTC has focused more on technical aspects, such as the ability to record sound in 24 bits from the microphones of the phone, or the Ice View hulls to view notifications through notifications or use the camera. LG include the Friends, accessories surrounding the G5.

pricing and availability

The Samsung Galaxy S7 is already on sale at a price of approximately 699 euros. HTC 10 will be available during the month of May for around 749 euros. Finally, you can expect the LG G5 by 15 April at a price of 699 euros. The price of HTC 10 seems a bit too high to compete, but we nevertheless wait to have performed a test for us pronounce it further.
