Photo Comparison: Sony Xperia Z5 face … Samsung Galaxy S6 – Frandroid

In our last picture comparison with the iPhone Apple 6s face the Galaxy S6 edge + G4 and LG, we had not been able to integrate the Sony Xperia Z5 since it was too late to writing. So this is an opportunity to compare the picture quality of Sony’s latest face the two best Android camera phones of the moment: the G4 LG and Samsung Galaxy S6

The Sony Xperia Z5 a innovates. few in the field of photography since it features a brand new sensor that pushed the definition to 23 megapixels. Its optical however slightly recessed to compete with lower aperture of f / 2.0 to f face / 1.9 Galaxy S6 and f / 1.8 G4. The Galaxy S6 sharing the same photo as part of the model edge Galayx S6 + with a 16 megapixel sensor Samsung ISOCELL for some versions or a Sony IMX240 16 megapixels for other versions. Our model is equipped with the original Sony sensor. On the G4, we find the house Innotek sensor also has 16 megapixels.

As our comparative precedent, we achieved all of our photos in automatic mode , the preferred mode of the vast majority of users. However, we have taken into account your criticisms and wanted to take some shots in manually . However, the exercise is simply impossible revealed the Xperia Z5. Indeed, the basic application only allows you to adjust the white balance and exposure compensation. We must then switch to 8 megapixels in order to set the ISO. As to the duration of exposure or focus, use a third party application. Finally, the DNG (RAW) is not supported .

Third-party applications see the Sony sensor as a 8 megapixel and only the application Camera FV-360 worked with ergonomics to throw your smartphone out the window. For both these reasons (and avoid throwing the smartphone out the window), we decided to abandon the idea of making pictures in manual mode. We took the opportunity to clarify that the Xperia Z5 tolerates the Camera2 API but not to shoot DNG (RAW) unlike its two competitors. Phone from Sony therefore already at a disadvantage for lovers of photography. To recap, the DNG format for retouching (or rather expand) the photo with dedicated applications (such as Lightroom) without affecting the quality of the picture.

For each gallery you will find Photos of the Sony Xperia Z5 left, those of the Samsung Galaxy S6 in the middle and finally the LG G4 right

.

Day Landscape

On the day of scenery, the Samsung Galaxy S6 takes a slight lead, ahead of the Sony Xperia Z5. The reason is rendering a bit more natural colors with less contrast and saturation a bit less for the Samsung terminal. The white balance is also slightly better on it. In terms of sharpness, it is again the LG G4 taking the lead. But it is closely followed by the Sony Xperia Z5. The LG unit delivers a too dull cliche, with white balance too capricious as usual.

As for the level of detail, one would think that the 23 megapixel Sony sensor would miracles. Finally, this is not the case and this is the sensor LG Innotek G4 taking the lead, but followed closely by the Sony Xperia Z 5 as shown in the pictures at 100%. It is then the Galaxy S6 closes the march with a dive so good but not so bad.

Sony Xperia Z5 G4 vs LG

Night Landscape

At night, the cards are completely redistributed. The Sony Xperia Z5 comes in last, with a totally unusable snapshot representing a pixel porridge. It is ultimately the LG G4 takes over with a correct white balance and an ability to bring out the shadows. The S6 Galaxy is slightly worse with a lower white balance (which pulls the yellow) and a less bright picture.

Portraits

Here, the first series of portraits was carried out with artificial illumination while the second series was used in a dimly lit room with daylight. In both cases, the Sony Xperia Z5 delivers shots that flatter the retina with nice saturation (perhaps too much for some) and white balance to the hair. The Samsung Galaxy S6 is not far behind and the LG G4 closes walking with again a white balance off the plate.

In low light, the Sony Xperia Z5 is too noisy and even with artificial lighting, level of detail is not equivalent to that of the Galaxy LG G4 or S6, though slightly worse than the LG device in terms of sharpness.

Macro

In macro mode, surprisingly, the Galaxy S6 that the worst white balance while the Z5 Xperia and LG G4 have properly set the color temperature. In terms of sharpness, it is always the LG G4 taking the lead, followed by the Galaxy S6 with the Xperia Z5 which closes the walk, with a little hard to make a development so close.

Selfies

Using the front sensor, the LG G4 that delivers the best result, with its sensor with a higher resolution than the other two terminals. Furthermore, the wide angle lens Galaxy S6 deforms the face too.

Conclusion

During our test of the Sony Xperia Z5, the terminal had really appealed to us photo . But after a few extra days in his possession and a front comparison with the two best Android camera phones of the moment, we are forced to revise our judgment. If day, with good brightness, the Xperia Z5 delivers clichés quite usable and very good quality, it’s not the same thing in low light and it’s even worse at night. Under these conditions, the Sony device is not worthy of a high-end smartphone in terms of picture. Worse, if the terminal is compatible with the Camera2 API to perform many manual settings, this is not the case of the basic application, and most third party applications are planting and if this is not the case , they have to be limited to a definition of 8 megapixels. It is therefore urgent that Sony review its copy at Software .

Meanwhile, Samsung Galaxy S6 is the reference photo on Android . While it is not perfect with a level of detail a bit weak to compete or capricious white balance in low light, but it is the most homogeneous of the three. The LG G4 is perfect for photographers looking for a good dive, but it will go through the manual mode (and why not the DNG / RAW) to correct the white balance and exploit the terminal. Under these conditions, he will outrun the Galaxy S6 and therefore the Xperia Z5 as we saw in a previous comparison. However, if the Sony Xperia Z5 supports one day totally Camera2 API, it can be a real high-end cameraphone
