Galaxy Edge + S6 and Galaxy Note 5: Samsung sees great for … – Challenges.fr

This is a real speed race being waged Apple Samsung and its great rival. The Korean giant has again blown politeness to its US competitor by revealing the heart of August two new high-end smartphones, breaking with the traditional appointment of the IFA in Berlin. History to get a head start before the presentation of the new iPhone in early September. And erase the disappointing reception given to the Galaxy S6 last spring …

According to the latest figures from research firm IDC published late July, Samsung remains world number 1 in the smartphone market with a market share of 21.7% in the second quarter (-3.1 points), but these are the firm at the apple and Chinese brands Huawei and Xiaomi supporting the market.

The Korean consumer electronics group has taken the lead in organizing a large rout in New York Thursday, 13 August to unveil the Edge and S6 + Galaxy Note 5. With a simple message: the bigger it is, the better. The two new “flagship stores” display panels 5.7 inches, a now mostly phablettes format adopted by the market. But a larger format than the iPhone 6 Plus (5.5 inches). JK Shin, head of the mobile division of Samsung Electronics, was recalled during the press conference. Samsung was the first to take the risk of XXL screens for smartphones with his first Galaxy Note in 2011. “People thought we were crazy,” he said. And yet, new uses have demonstrated the value of such a format when Apple still persisted in delivering smartphones under 4 inches … Even the Cupertino company has resolved to adopt a larger size with iPhone 6 , popular in Asia and China in particular. “We knew there was a demand for larger screens” proudly added Justin Denison, US vice president of Samsung Electronics.

A design now very premium

S6 Edge + 5 and Galaxy Note also adopt the new ultra sleek design of the S6 and S6 Edge, with the presence of metal and glass. A revolution that Samsung had accustomed us to make devices to not very premium plastic finishes. But all this belongs to the past. The two new devices are now part of the beautiful. With a curved screen on both sides for the Edge +.

Another notable point the onboard power. They have one and one 4 GB of RAM, a RAM equivalent to that of a laptop. And for good reason. Both devices are expected to replace the laptop by becoming perfect multitasking tools and / or media.

Samsung did however not spread on the technical specifications of both machinery at his press conference. He only said that they were compatible 4G LTE Category 9 and 100% recharged in 120 minutes only. For screens, we set off on the Super Amoled Quad HD with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels. The camera has meanwhile a dorsal sensor 16 million pixels and a forehead sensor 5 million pixels which open both at f / 1.9. The Edge S6 + is equipped with a processor clocked at 2.1 GHz octocore, 32GB storage (again without MicroSD port) and a battery of 3,000 mAh.

Samsung Pay, the payment without Contact

The Korean group has also launched the assault in payments via mobile by launching Samsung Pay in South and the US Korea respectively on August 20 and September 28. The system is compatible with payment terminals using NFC contactless technology, such as Apple Pay, but also with a magnetic transmission technology (MST) that allow it to function “with most existing terminals’ in shops says Samsung in a statement. Something new, it will not only replace all credit card partners, but also gift cards … “C ‘is the only mobile payment service that works virtually anywhere the card can be dragged,” he -t he said.

Both smartphones will be available in the US and Canada from 21 August and later in the rest of the world. No specific date for Europe. Small precision provided by the site The Digital on Note 5 will not be available in France … he feared Samsung already cannibalization of Note 5 by Edge + S6?

Last but not least , the Korean giant made a very quick overview of the new connected watch, Gear S2, when the Watch Apple knows a little bit of slack. See you in Berlin September 2!
