SCREEN: SAMSUNG GALAXY A5

start this duel the most important element of a smartphone display. The Galaxy A5 and LG G4 do not play very much in the same court. The Samsung in mid range sports a reasonable slab 5.2 inches while the G last year embarked a massive 5.5 inch screen. We do not départagerons both moving on this, as the size of a smartphone is a matter of taste.

In terms of raw results, the G4 takes a slender lead over its fine display with its definition WQHD (2560 x 1400 px) and 534 pixels per inch, against the 424 ppi Galaxy A5 conferred by its Full HD screen. That said, you have bionic eyes or specific needs to see a real difference. On the colorimetry plan in hand, the Samsung mobile comes off more sharply with a Delta E of 1.8 against 3.3 of the G4 – though, again, the difference is imperceptible to the eye. The temperature is also better on the A5, as the latter reaches 6900 Kelvin 7845 K against the LG mobile.

But where Samsung really widens the gap, it is with the Amoled technology of screen A5 facing the IPS G4. So even though the G4 enjoys an excellent contrast ratio of 1546: 1, it does not compete with the virtually infinite contrast A5. Another advantage of AMOLED, ghosting is virtually nil while the G4 it reaches 18 ms. The touch delay is more or less equivalent, with 87 ms on the A5 against 100 ms on the G4. The A5 thus wins by a short head, especially through the adoption of AMOLED, beautifully mastered by Samsung since a couple of years.

DESIGN & amp; ERGONOMICS: LG G4

On the issue of the takeover, the two mobiles are not the same size and thus to guide the diagonal that suits us the most. This part will not be broken by any “ideal size”. However, certain points, as the occupancy rate of the screen, can be compared. In the case of these two moving, it turns out that the scores revolve around 73%; Equality on this so.

If the finish is admirable on both mobile, we must admit that the G4 risk taking allows him to break away from its competitor. The interchangeable covers have the advantage of being suitable for multiple sensitivities, leather finishing, in particular, gives a real luxurious appearance and pleasant to all, even if we regret that abyss quickly on corners. The back control buttons still fall quite naturally under the fingers and the curved back hugs the palm of your hand. We always appreciate the opportunity to remove the battery from the phone.

The A5, for its part, did not have much to answer for. Its design is clean, the materials are noble and quite similar lines to those of Galaxy S6 and S7. The finishes are impeccable, but the lines and overall design have considerably less character than the G4. He still earns an honorable mention with its fingerprint reader.

Historically one of Android interfaces that has attracted the most critics, the Samsung TouchWizz overcoat was still significantly reduced the wing issue ergonomic and practical changes in recent years. The Korean manufacturer proposes for several generations a whole lot more simple and uncluttered. The interface is immediately accessible to novices without frustrating those who want to do a little more with their mobile.
LG, meanwhile, offers a hyper-complete and widely customizable interface, but sometimes suffers from complexity. The four parameters panels seem a good idea, but often waste time more than anything. The widgets always nested in the application drawer seem drawn from a version of Android for the last few years.
In addition, some more recent release of the Galaxy A5 may allow to hope for a follow updates Android beyond what will the G4. Noted however that the two mobile provide advanced functions such as windowing, themes management or intelligent interactions, such as the double tap on LG or movements shortcuts Samsung.

Question game, the battle between the two smartphones does not play much. The graphics chip Galaxy A5 is quite capable of reproducing graphics flattering, but it is a bit off that can display the G5 with the torque Snapdragon Adreno 808 and 418. The G4 thus gaining a short head.

the divide is widening a little more with the headphone output of G4, better balanced than that of the Galaxy A5. The power is a bit lower, but it is generous and cleanest signal. Will avoid both, as often, too much use of the speakers.

Finally, video, G4 is a bit more flexible and versatile than its congener through a range of options during playback. Point of trouble to do, however, both are quite capable of decoding most mobile video files.

The Galaxy A5 has pleasantly surprised us during his visit to our photo lab with a 13 megapixel module that manages to produce perfectly controlled and balanced images when light is lenient. In addition, the mobile optical stabilization sailed very well made. Under the same conditions, the G4 also comes with honors thanks to its 16MP unit also stabilized.

The difference is more marked in low light. When the light is lacking, the A5 shots are filled with electronic noise. The G4 remains even today one of the best students in the performance of low-light pictures. The module is able to absorb a bunch of light with its opening at F / 1.8 and offers the luxury of limiting noise in pictures.

Finally, a word on the application itself. LG has tweaked its software and offers a plethora of features to address the finest possible shots, speed to white balance through the capture in RAW. The mode “Pro” Samsung also offers some control options, but they are fewer. In short, facing the monster that the LG G4, A5 bows, not without a fight worthy conduct.

AUTONOMY: SAMSUNG GALAXY A5

no need to prolong the suspense, the Galaxy A5 is a monster and little autonomy smartphones manage to make him shade, including G4. SmartViser our testing protocol, the A5 prances at 5:53 p.m. autonomy, about two good days of use. Same sentence in our reading test flow in which the spine during A5 3:46 p.m. before claiming a charger. The G4, any premium it is, does not quite compare with “only” on our 11:06 joint test, and 8:40 in streaming on Netflix.
