It was the biggest show of the last MWC in Barcelona, ​​the arrival fanfare new flagship of the range of Samsung smartphones, Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. This time it was promised, the Korean manufacturer started from scratch to completely rethink its high-end devices, with quality materials and a unique design. We got our hands on both models exclusively. Here are our first tests

This will inevitably be a matter of personal preference, and portfolio … In the lab, we have made our choice: it will be the Galaxy classical S6. The Edge S6 version is very appealing aesthetically pleasant to handle (slightly lighter and narrower than the S6). However, in practice, its curved screen gives the impression of being narrower than the S6, and films, both sides bent may alter slightly the vision of the image. Besides the reflections that often hang on these two curved areas. So, knowing that the Edge S6 costs 150 euros more than the S6, and it offers very little additional functionality with its curved screen, the S6 seems to be a more reasonable choice.

The AMOLED display of the two Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge is a marvel. Its performance improved further. It is brighter to 626 cd / m², with perfect contrast and gamma stack to 2.2 … and the colors are better managed. Screen adjustment options have been simplified. Photo mode AMOLED covers almost all of the Adobe RGB color space, the basic mode fits perfectly on the classic sRGB space with excellent fidelity rendering in both cases (average deltaE less than 3). A feast for the eyes, even if our probe detected a slight dominance of green in shades of gray. Finally, if the viewing angles are the best on the market, grays tend to pull to blue when viewed from the side.

Note however that the Samsung AMOLED displays, from that of the S5, displayed a brightness that is not constant. It is done by pulsation and therefore sparkles, 240 Hz according to our measurements. Very good and fast photo

The Galaxy’s camera S6 is very rapid, and c is a real pleasure. It launches in a snap, develops and triggers clockwork. A pleasure, even if it should be mentioned that the iPhone 6 Plus is just as fast in all these areas (launch, focus and trigger). Image quality side, there are the hot colors typical of Samsung, while the iPhone 6 keeps more realistic colors. But details aside, it is excellent, especially in macro. The video is of the same ilk. Big performance, downturns in 3D

Can not install any software on our test model, who refused any “benchmark”. At MWC, we have seen record results in Antutu. Only the 3D test pushed Epic Citadel (Unreal Engine) was able to settle. He showed that the Galaxy S6 are subject to the “ throttling ” (CPU slowdown avoid heat stroke) after showing a good rate of 53 frames per second in the first round of testing, the two devices have dropped to only 32 fps after fifteen minutes of 3D test. In practice, the device is very fast. The time of opening of applications are very short, thanks to the very fast internal memory of the device.
