Galaxy Footnote 7 : a first bill of € 2 billion to … – ITespresso.fr

What financial harm the failure of the Galaxy Footnote 7 will-t-it to Samsung ?

The firm has provided the first official estimate. It has updated its forecasts for the 3e quarter of 2016, with operating income declined by one third : of the 6.25 billion euros announced on 7 October last year, to 4.25 billion at best ; all on a turnover in the range of 37 to 38.5 billion.

In other words, the bill on the (very) short-term amounts, conservatively, to 2 billion euro.

This amount reflects the expenses incurred in the recall program of the phablet was prone to overheating problems, which may lead to smoke, start a fire, or even explosions. Samsung has also integrated the setting, inventory management, components are purchased in advance… and the refunds that many customers are likely to require rather than to exchange their Footnote 7 against another phone.

The injury in terms of images is more difficult to assess. Just as the prosecution which may be initiated by both consumers and partners. It will also need to monitor the way in which the case will be managed in-house ; with, in the first line, D. J. Koh, director of the Mobile division of Samsung Electronics since December 2015.

What will happen to the Footnote 7 now that their production is permanently stopped ? Motherboard is believed that Samsung does not repair them and even less to condition it. It is a question of ” get rid of “, without further details, except to say that there is a method defined.

According to Kyle Wiens, the said process may have a strong environmental impact.

The CEO of iFixit (the site community of repair of objects) says that the recycling methods are not yet at the point for smartphones : it is not known, in the state, to recover a small part of the materials. Not the indium (which comprises a touch-sensitive screen), neodymium (built-in speakers and microphones) or cobalt (used for the battery in the case of the Galaxy Footnote 7).

the difficulties of recycling was the reason why the older phones are often refurbished and resold, inter alia on markets to emerging economies.
