After several new incidents that have occurred in the United States, the manufacturer south Korean has decided to adjust downward the production of its phablet, a term elegant to say that she is certainly suspended. The mobile operators have, meanwhile, suspended all marketing and offering a product replacement.
After a first reported case in the Louisville airport in Kentucky, it is Texas that a new incident would have been reported as well as in Virginia and in Minnesota, the last two occurring Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 October. According to The Verge, 5 cases of spontaneous combustion have been detected on devices in the United States, models yet considered as safe because equipped with the new battery. Before these new troubles, the manufacturer South Korean has decided to suspend the production of its new model.
In these conditions, the four largest us carriers : AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint and Verizon have decided to suspend the marketing of this model and offer an exchange or refund for the customers. All four say they now expect the report of the body responsible for the protection of consumers (CPSC – Consumer Product Safety Commission) which shall make its decision. Recall that the commission had certified the replacement units after the first incidents occurred in early September.
In France, the new model should not be available before the end of October. It is not known if this new blow will further delay the availability but it seems more than likely.
From the early setbacks, these are 2.5 million devices that have been recalled by the manufacturer in an operation which has already cost more than $ 1 billion.
