Samsung Galaxy Gear: a disappointing gadget - Europe 1

.. > No value-added Samsung itself acknowledged in September: “lacks something special” at his watch. This is true because, to use a week of intensive use, the conclusion is clear: in addition to the time display, the Galaxy Gear is not used much. The user can certainly make a phone call with his wrist (do not fear the ridiculous), see his recent alerts (SMS, email or social networks), or check the weather, but not revolutionary feature in sight.

> Still too few applications One of the explanations for lack of novelty of the Galaxy Gear comes from the small size of the catalog of applications. one application for Twitter and Facebook, a handful of sports applications (to measure its activity), some original displays for time and that’s all. Little or no games, no original application … Samsung has yet to work on that to make it an indispensable tool.

> A photo quality too low. Samsung tried to stand, at the presentation of his “smartwatch”, highlighting the camera sensor at his watch. But in practice, the low quality of the sensor (1.9 megapixels) makes a gadget that pushes the user to release its Galaxy Note 3 (13 megapixels!) From his pocket rather than stretch the wrist.

> A limited autonomy. Last black dot, low battery life of the Galaxy Gear. Activating alerts (SMS, emails or notifications from social networks), electronic watch was not held over two days. And recharge your accessory must insert it into a kind of case, which is then connected to a wired charger. Not very practical.

> Galaxy Note 3 mandatory. For the moment, the Galaxy Gear only works with the new smartphone giant Samsung. Impossible to operate alone, independently of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 or with another Android smartphone. If it is a great device (one of the best “phablets” market), its price – 799 euros without subscription – and the large size of the screen (5.7 inches or 15 centimeters) can be a Brake purchase. Of course, Samsung announced a future compatibility with Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy S3 and S4, but it is too small a number of smartphones to appeal to a wider audience.

Verdict: exit too early

?

This is the balance that can be drawn from this “smartwatch”, which has the merit of being one of the pioneers in the industry: the Galaxy Gear is a rather beautiful object but, in practice, does not offer few interesting applications. Korean Apple probably wanted to get ahead, which should offer its own shows connected in 2014. In the meantime, our good old toquantes will (yet) the case.
