Why the iPhone 6S ridicules the Galaxy S7 in this test of speed? – Tom’s Hardware

The video is final. PhoneBuff, well known for its comparative speed in real situation on smartphones, shows that the Galaxy S7 Edge does not hold face an iPhone 6S Plus in the test.

But why the Galaxy S7 Edge is it seriously lagging against the iPhone 6S Plus in this simple comparison of practice quickly? We tried to isolate three major causes that we believe in the Samsung smartphone disability, in order of importance.

1. virtual machine management and RAM Android

First, it is in the second round as the Galaxy S7 is largely behind by the iPhone 6S. Because the Android smartphone to reload almost every application, already launched. Instead, all apps for the iPhone have remained RAM and restart instantly. This is clearly a handicap software located at the management of the RAM by the Android system itself (though here in latest version Marshmallow).

Another detail that could be related to management RAM: many applications running on a Java virtual machine on Android, while the majority is coded in Objective-C at Apple. This virtual machine in Android is faster since the introduction of ART (after Dalvik), but it still takes a lot of RAM, and it is less easy to manage. At Apple, developers bonds are heavier and games must in particular be able to put themselves in a state of deep rest in RAM to be taken quickly. This is a big advantage of the closed environment and very controlled Apple.

2. Internal flash memory slower

Application Storage is made on an internal flash memory for both smartphones. And according to Anandtech tests of our colleague, the performance of the storage memory are considerably higher among iPhone 6S. This explains in particular why the Galaxy S7 is already behind in the first round, when applications are loaded for the first time.

3. The Snapdragon 820 is limping along

Note here that it is the US version of the Galaxy S7 is tested, equipped with a Snapdragon 820. Despite its four hearts, processor is clearly outdistanced by the A9 Apple iPhone 6S in Web tests as Kraken, Google Octane and WebXPRT. Also, one Kryo heart is less powerful than the heart of the Apple A9. This detail is less important than the previous two, but it should also play, knowing that many mobile apps do not take any advantage of multiple cores available.

Still, the European version of the Galaxy S7, with an Exynos processor eight-core, could be faster … Except in 3D, where the IGP Adreno 530 Snapdragon 820 crushes the competition, even that of the iPhone 6S plus.
