The excellent storage medium of the Galaxy and Galaxy S6 S6 Edge uses a technology called UFS 2.0. Three times faster than the very common eMMC 5.1, it is now available to all manufacturers.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 is clearly our current champion AnTuTu. In excess of 60,000 points, it is the most powerful and fastest high-end smartphones. A performance that does not simply due to its chipset, the Exynos Octa 7 7420, but also to two other elements: the RAM, the LPDDR4 size (which is twice as fast as the LPDDR3), and storage media, 2.0 UFS (Universal Flash Storage). Impressive achievement, the memory module derived technology SSD is largely faster than all other materials currently used in industry, even in the high end.

The UFS 2.0 technology for all?
If today, no smartphone manages to compete in global benchmarks (AnTuTu type or Basemark) with the Galaxy S6, the situation could change at the end of the year. A Korean designer semiconductor, SK Hynix, has announced the availability of a storage medium 64GB UFS 2.0 to smartphones and mobile devices. Performance is here equivalent to the Galaxy S6, three times better than the eMMC 5.1 you find at HTC, LG or Sony for example. For lovers of numbers, its sequential capacity of 780 MB / s read and 160MB / s write.
This information is good news for two reasons. First, with the massive arrival of platforms capable of reading and saving photos and videos in high resolution, this technology will offer performance really adapted to this use. The high-end devices to come in this year end could be filled. According to the office of IHS study, the UFS could represent 4% of storage media in smartphones, 23% in 2017 and 49% in 2019. The adoption should be quick.

Then, SK Hynix is one of the world leaders in flash storage media with Samsung. It now provides storage arrays iPhone 6 (eMMC to format). If Apple chooses SK Hynix for the storage of its successor, the performance of the next iPhone will only be better. Especially that Samsung should provide meanwhile a finely engraved A9 chipset and RAM LPDDR4 (which could be doubled). This augurs an excellent vintage for 2015 at Apple.
