This is a small revolution … for Apple. Unchanged since 2011 and the iPhone 4S, the definition of photo sensor and finally progresses and goes from August to December megapixels on the iPhone 6s.
If this gap is not necessarily a condition better pictures, those extra pixels give hope more detailed images and a digital zoom and cropping that “less worse” photos. The Contenders

In the field

On a urban landscape, the differences between 6s iPhone and grandfather do not jump eyes. There are the colors “natural” typical iPhone with good white balance and white, very white.

It is using the digital zoom or by cropping the image that the iPhone 6s clearly and logically gained the upper hand with more sharpness and detail.

In addition to a 4/3 16/9 at Apple against Samsung side, the differences are more marked between an iPhone and a Galaxy 6s S6 Edge. The S6 saturate some colors with warmer temperatures, where the iPhone offers a colder restitution. Excluding these temperature differences, especially S6 takes advantage of the dive with a more detailed image.

With a brighter light unit, we suspected that the interior would be more flattering pictures on the Galaxy Edge S6. It is suspected however better developed at Apple in low light situations, the picture looks sharper us on the 6s iPhone. In addition to differences in temperature and focus, it is less about noise on the image captured by the Galaxy Edge S6.

By reframing, the differences in development are confirmed. If the scene is brighter and less noisy with the S6, burning the Apple Watch appears blurred. Conversely, etching seems clearer on 6s iPhone.

First balance sheet, the gap is not there
In our hands for a few days, we wanted to check whether the switch of an iPhone to an iPhone 6 6s is legitimized by the photo part. Next our first pictures taken under the shady Parisian sky, the gap is not really there. In practice and our practice of the day, playback quality seems almost identical to a 6 or 6s and one can only detect differences in lean cropping or using the digital zoom to the maximum.
The 6s iPhone, like the iPhone 6 deliver excellent photos and we appreciate a more neutral balance of whites and always faithful colors. If the Edge S6 and slightly warmer color saturate colors, it also shows overall above in terms of finesse, sharpness with images offering more relief or roughness.
