The S Samsung Galaxy Tab series had appeared last year, and in fine style, with models 10.5 and 8.4 inches successful. The top of the line returns this year with a new format 9.7-inch Super AMOLED slab. Our probe has spoken, the Galaxy Tab S2 compete unashamedly with the iPad Air 2 regarding the screen.

The largest Galaxy Tab S2 offers a diagonal of 24.6 cm in 4: 3, where the Tab 10.5 S reached 26.7 cm in 16:10. Another difference is the definition Forgot x 2560 px 1600 to 2048 x 1536 px. It still retains a resolution of 264 dpi that is comfortable for videos and the game, but a little less for reading web pages. Samsung confirmed and signed with Super AMOLED technology that allows it to achieve a contrast ratio of almost infinite. This is undoubtedly one of the most notable benefits of the Tab S2 compared to an iPad Air 2 which itself merely an IPS panel on which we measured a contrast ratio of “only” 1070: 1. To this, the Tab S2 adds a maximum brightness of 380 cd / m²: honorable for the Amoled which does not need to rise as high as the IPS to remain legible in sunlight. Finally, the display directly manages reflections since we note that 8% reflectance rate.
Colorimetric
Delta E = 2.2
As usual with Samsung, there are 4 screen modes: Standard (default), Cinema, Photography, Reading and Basic. It is the latter that provides the most faithful rendering color with a Delta E of 2.2. As a reminder, we see a screen displaying accurate colors as soon as the delta E is less than 3. The iPad Air 2 is not left in the field because we had measured 2.9. The difference will be invisible to the untrained eye. Tab S2 also shows nearly perfect for the color temperature to 6630 K for a standard 6500 K. Gamma appears on average to 2.2, but there is a slight tendency to dull white.
If until then the Galaxy Tab S2 did more than compete with the iPad Air 2, not everything is rosy. Certainly, the AMOLED technology provides zero ghosting time offering a feeling of fluidity in most uses. But where we stay on our hunger is on the Touch delay decreased from the previous generation. We measured 48 ms for the Galaxy Tab 10.5, a score that falls by 98 ms, 10 ms above the average of our comparative. On this point, the Air iPad 2 remains the undisputed master with only 9 ms of delay touch. A difference that is felt, gestures made on-screen echoing more slowly in the display.
