Cyanogen wants “iPhone killers Galaxy” by integrating Cortana – Next INpact

Microsoft offers for several weeks a beta for Android Cortana. The publisher, however, has a specific agreement with Cyanogen for a much deeper integration of the voice assistant in the system. Kirt McMaster, CEO of Cyanogen, is even sure: this integration can make all the difference

Cortana is available in beta on Android since last month, but is still limited in the US.. As we previously indicated, the voice assistant can perform a host of actions, but is found for the time limited because of an insufficient level of system integration. Yet major works are planned in this area, through a partnership with Cyanogen, which has already enabled the integration of mobile applications into its giant Cyanogen OS, not to be confused with CyanogenMod, alternative system for smartphone existing ones.

Controlling third-party applications

In an interview given to International Business Times, Kirt McMaster, CEO Cyanogen, does not hide his enthusiasm about this joint project. It confirms that the integration will be deep, which will release a result of numerous interactions still currently impossible. By comparing the situation with what exists at Apple, it indicates that Siri does not know, for example fetching content in some third-party applications, while Cortana for Cyanogen OS will get a title or playlist directly into Spotify. In other words, control third-party applications.

For McMaster, Cortana is also “ much better than Siri “, but would imagine not have an opinion different after signing a partnership with Microsoft. It is true that Cortana has a particularly natural phrasing, but it is the integration itself which can make the difference, the current beta finally making less than what Google already offers. The idea however is to link its service and Windows 10 , the products offered on competing platforms to create as many doors the system.

Map invasion

The partnership should in any case serve the interests of both companies. Microsoft will work well on deeper integration of its service in a very near end of Android system (which it is derived), while Cyanogen progresses towards its goal of greater vis-à-vis Google independence. However, we wonder if the company will not trade one dependency for another.

The results of this work are however not expected before next year, no further details at this time. Kirt McMaster also seems convinced that this integration will allow Cyanogen produce “ large appliances that will be iPhone killers and Galaxy .” One only needs to see, especially since the company has yet to sign agreements with the major builders to gain credibility. It is recalled that Cyanogen OnePlus fitted to the OS, but the partnership stopped
