DxO Labs has had the opportunity to test the photo sensor of the iPhone 7. The result is not mirobolant.
During his last Keynote, Apple a lot of emphasis on the capabilities camera of its latest smartphone, not hesitating to compare it to some cameras-type slr camera.
On paper, it is necessary to admit that the offer seems pretty solid. TheiPhone 7 is equipped with a sensor of 12 million pixels crowned by an optical stabilized comprised of six elements, a lens capable of opening to f/1.8.

Behind them, there is also a Flash True Tone quad-LED, a hybrid infrared filter, a system developed by Focus Pixels and even a noise reduction system.
But here it is, in practice, the phone would not be as impressive as expected. It is in any case what we can infer from the analysis carried out by DxO Labs.
If you do not know it yet, then be aware that this French company has a strong knowledge of everything related to image processing.
She has even become a true reference in the field and she has a habit of sifting through all the optical, but also in all the enclosures (dslr or hybrid) on the market. She is also interested for several years in our smartphones.
DxO Labs has recently asked its experts to consider the case of the iPhone 7 and the record is quite mixed. The terminal has actually obtained a score of 86 out of 100 in photo and of 85 out of 100 in video. It is quite honorable, of course, but the terminal is still lagging behind compared to its competitors.
mixed
The HTC 10, the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and the Sony Xperia X Performance well ahead and still in the lead with a score of 88 points in the photo.
The Moto Z Force Droid, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus and the Sony Xperia Z5 coming in next with a score of 87 points, followed by the iPhone 7, LG G5, the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. These four phones get effectively the same score, with a score of 86 points in the photo.
And for video ? The balance sheet is not better. The HTC 10 answers actually 86 points, the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge 88 points and the Sony Xperia X Performance 88 points. The Moto Z Droid Force, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus and the Sony Xperia Z5 will come out very well too, with scores of 86, 85 and 86 points. Not bad, as far as the last two are beginning to acknowledge their age.
This is of course not to say that the iPhone 7 is not capable of taking beautiful photos. In reality, it enjoys a very good global exposure, a correct white balance and a flash rather effective.
Now, the question is, of course, know how to make the iPhone 7 More. It will have to unfortunately wait a little longer to find out.
